Deposits Tips: What is Excess Damage

Leaving an apartment with any form of damage can be cause for losing a security deposit. Landlords cannot dock tenants for normal wear and tear, but sometimes figuring out the difference can be tough. Does a worn out rug count as damage? How about paint? Here is a quick list of a few things that are considered damage in an apartment.

Burns on the carpet or walls

Broken tiles

Holes in the walls

Large carpet or wall stains

Broken doors

Urine stains from pets

Broken refrigerator shelfs

Missing blinds

Toilet wont flush
